Cam Sails
Freerace sail models feature 2-3 camber inducers, 7-8 battens, full foot shape with 2 battens below the boom and require moderate to high downhaul tension. Freerace designs are ideal for recreational racing and those who favor the stability of a camber induced sail over No-cam Freeride designs. Common size options and mast requirements; 5.5 to 9.5 sail sizes, SDM mast compatibility. Sail models to consider in Freerace range are; Ezzy Lion, Gaastra Phantom. Ezzy Lion cam sails rig on both SDM and RDM masts, have 2 cams and feature the smallest mast sleeve in the category. The Gaastra Phantom has a moderate double luff panel, 2 cams and many performance features of the Vapor race in a more forgiving design.
Slalom Race sail models feature 4 camber inducers, 8-9 battens, large double luff mast sleeves, require very high downhaul tension, and have limited production / availability. Designers of these sails have one goal in mind – to win races at the highest level of competition. They utilize the most technically evolved materials, incorporate ground breaking shaping, and use professional racers to test their designs in their quest for the ultimate winning formula. Common size options and mast requirements; 5.0 to 10.0 sail sizes, SDM brand specific mast compatibility. Slalom race models are very rigid designs that provide maximum stability and control in powered to overpowered conditions. They are among the most technical to rig and require aggressive riding styles in transitions. The Gaastra Vapor is amazingly competitive Slalom race design that consistently places pro riders on the podium.
Formula sail models feature 4-5 cams, 8 battens, a large double luff mast sleeve and require moderate to high downhaul tension. These sails are very large at 10.0 – 12.5 meter sizes. They are designed for light to moderate winds and favor formula board performance where upwind pointing and down wind runs are the norm. They are very mast specific and rig on SDM masts only. The Gaastra Vapor formula model is 4 cam / 8 batten sail available in 10.0, 11.0 and 12.0 sizes.
